Top Five Finishes For Athletes From Bansko Competing in The Special Winter Olympics in Italy

Recently, the Special Winter Olympics took place in Turin, Italy, and Bansko had a strong presence. The Bulgarian team comprised ten individuals, five of whom were from Bansko. This resulted in one gold, one silver, and fourth and fifth-place finishes.

Mikhail Yakimov made history by being the first Bulgarian to compete in the highest advanced category in the Special Olympics. He made the top 5 of the Giant Slalom and the Super Giant Slalom and came 4th in the Slalom, just one second off being awarded the bronze medal.

Dense fog hampered visibility, and participants saw weather conditions deteriorate during the competition, but all battled on and showed great sportsmanship.

Ivan Vesiu won gold in cross-country skiing, and Asya Todorova won silver in skiing.

Before You Go…

We’re now into the last few weeks of the winter season, which ends on Sunday 13th of April. The Goat has closed, as well as Penguins, Jacks’ House, Oxygen, The Bears, At Home, and Queens Pub. The band at Amigos (Step by Step) played their last night yesterday (22nd), so they will be closing soon too. Euphoria is supposed to open for a few more weeks with live music, but that could change.

Smokey Mountain will close on Saturday (29th), so if you want one of the best burgers in town then head there this week. They’ve also got their last wings night on Tuesday (25th) and their last pool tournament on Thursday (27th)

The Hub is staying open until the end of the season (despite what other sources have reported) and will have a Hawaiian party on Sunday 13th of April (the last day of the season).

Morris Bar is also supposedly staying open until the end of the season (double-checked Friday), which is different to normal as it usually closes a little earlier.

Also, thank you to everyone who has bought me a coffee over the last few weeks. I appreciate it.
