Hundreds of digital nomads set to arrive for the annual Nomad Fest this June

In seven weeks, we’ll be welcoming many hundreds of digital nomads, entrepreneurs and business owners to the Bansko Nomad Fest in town.

This festival is seven days packed full of conference sessions, networking events, unconference sessions, a wellness programme, networking dinners, and social events for people to learn, develop and connect.

The biggest concentration of people will be on from 4pm on Sunday 21st of June, when attendees register. This will most likely be in either the main square or the town park.

Each day, conference sessions will take place in the main lecture halls in the town square, while unconference sessions and other events will be held in the town park.

Over the festival’s seven days (21st to 27th of June), as well as the three extra activity days (new for this year), it will be quite busy in town. If you’re going out for lunch or dinner during this time, it’s probably best to book, and fast-food places (incl. delivery places) may be quite busy too. Some event attendees will stick around for a few weeks or months afterwards too, so if you attend any of the events over the summer, you may see them around.

Local mountain rescue service requests funding from the municipality

IMPORTANT: Water pipe cleaning & treatment in Bansko
The local water company has issued their annual notice for treatment of the local water system in Bansko. The high zone in Bansko and Dobrinishte starts tomorrow (Monday 27th), with the St Ivan area on Wednesday. The low zone is at the end of May (see here for more info & an explanation of the high/low zone). While these operations are ongoing in your area, DO NOT consume the water.

Some food prices fall in Bulgaria as much as 20%
It looks like several different vegetables grown in Bulgaria have recently decreased in price, while dairy and meat have increased slightly. (However, keep in mind that these decreases in prices will generally only be reflected in the local markets and smaller stores. Many large-chain supermarkets like Lidl & Billa. and the likes of eBag, source many fruits & vegetables from abroad.) Read more.

Before You Go…

In the notice board group this week, I shared last week’s Buzz main story (about the municipality highlighting trash being left all over the place most mornings in playgrounds and sports courts).

There were a few comments, some of which noted that the bins (trash cans) in these areas are often full and aren’t emptied as often as they should. Strange? Yes. So I went to take a look. Turns out it’s true. 🤦

I passed a few locations where these bins were and they were full. Not only at the time I went, but also on the three consecutive days I passed by. Not good. Let’s hope they empty them more often come the busier times.
