Ski Season Closes As Lots of Snow Falls in Final Week

Today, the 2024/2025 ski season ended in Bansko with many happy faces, great conditions, and glorious sunshine. It was also a surprisingly busy day on the mountain for some people.

When Bansko town woke up on Monday morning this week, there was a large dump of snow everywhere. It was forecast and meant that the final week of the ski season on the mountain would be an eventful one (with many people heading off-piste for a powder day).

It’s been a great winter season for skiers and snowboarders, with exceptional conditions at the start of the season (the resort opened 8 days early) and the final week having an abundance of snow. Some were getting a little concerned a few weeks ago when temperatures were soaring, with people remembering how bad last year was in the season's final few weeks.

Also, to confirm, the Bansko Buzz will continue to be sent to your email inbox every Sunday by 9pm Bansko time. By the end of this month, the official summer events programme should be published or in its final checks.

Razlog Municipality Reminds Farmers of Restrictions on Goats & Sheep
The European Union has restrictions on the movement of goats and sheep between certain countries. The movement of sheep and goats from both Romania and Greece is prohibited. Delays Continue on Road To/From Simitli/Blageovgrad
The roadworks I included in last week’s newsletter have been extended… until the end of June! 😫 There are roadworks near Gradevo village on the way to Simitli/Blageovgrad. That means there will be delays if you’re driving from Bansko to there or to Bansko (coming from Sofia? You need to go through this area). Important: If you’re driving to Bansko this coming Good Friday after 3pm, or from Bansko on Easter Sunday or Easter Monday before 7pm, expect significant delays (around 1 hour or more).

Before You Go…

It’s been noticeably quieter in town this week, with many places closed for the last week of the season. The station also closes for 3 to 8 weeks starting tonight.

Sadly, today, we also say goodbye to The Hub: tonight (Sunday 13th) they will close for the final time. The reason? You guessed it, Banskali landlords put the rent up by nearly 50% when they see a business doing well. The usual story.

We also say goodbye to Omaya Studio, which are having a farewell party tonight after being in town for three years.

It’s a shame when successful businesses like this close, but it’s a usual story for Bansko.

Easter is coming up next week, so there’ll be lots of people in town over the long weekend and there will be a few events. The weather also looks like it’s going to be gloriously sunny.

Until next Sunday…
