A small plane crash in the Pirin Mountains
sparks HEMS rescue

The first summer rescue mission for HEMS in Bansko wasn’t a hiker who had judged things wrong with the weather, but a small 5-seater Cirrus SR22 plane crash-landed in the Spano Pole area under Bashliyski Chukar, in the mountains above Bansko.
Setting off at 8am from Petrich (southwest of Bansko) and heading to Ruse in the north of the country, the pilot experienced a mechanical issue while flying over the mountains above Bansko. He had to crash-land the plane.
HEMS was called from its base in Sofia to help transport the two men to the safety of Bansko town. The Red Angel flew a third man with head, chest and leg trauma to Sofia’s St Anna University Hospital for treatment.
If you’re a keen observer of the skies in Bansko then you might have noticed one of the Red Angels above Bansko last week (16th). It was on a training mission between the bases of Sofia & Sliven, and was flying above Bansko on its way back to Sofia.

Before You Go…
This week was a bit hectic in Bansko. Lots going on, not just the Nomad Fest. By the time you wake up tomorrow (assuming you’re reading this on Sunday), it will be all over until next year. 🥳
Did they publish the summer events calendar? Nope. We’ll see if it comes out this next week. I’m pretty sure they’ll want to because the culture & arts evenings should start on Friday (4th). Which coincidentally is the same date as Tipsy 360’s opening party night (from 7pm): I hope to see you there if you’re in town 🍻.
