Buy a Calendar, Help Save a Life: Raising Funds for Automated External Defibrillators

The Living Mountains foundation is selling 2025 calendars to raise funds for installing 20 AEDs in mountain huts across Pirin, Rila, Stara Planina and Rhodopes.

Funds raised will go to the purchase of the AEDs and to train people to use them, as well as general first aid training. The Living Mountains 2024 calendar raised over 46,000 BGN last year, and they were able to deliver a defibrillator and training (as well as general first aid training) to both Vihren Hut and Yavorov Hut.

The calendars cost 30BGN, have 12 impressive shots from around Bulgaria with interesting stories, and you’ll be helping towards a good cause. All calendars will be delivered by Ekont (starting 1st of November), and the cost of delivery and the calendar donation will be payable in cash upon delivery.

If you want to read about the calendars and how you can buy one to help them deliver on their mission, click/tap the button below [translation required]. If you want to read about the people delivering the first aid training, you can read about them here [translation required].

Dobrinishte lift maintenance dates
Don’t you love it when one person tells you one thing and another person tells you something different? We finally got to the bottom of the lift and its operating hours before ski season.

Is there somewhere safe to park my car in Bansko?
Maria wants to know if there is a location that’s best for parking her car for a few months while out of town. Lots of suggestions: I agree with Ilian, although I’d be mindful of parking outside someone’s house and them doing the whole windscreen wiper thing.

Snapping a photo of the Subway shop
Subway is a fast-food sandwich chain that had a shop in Bansko. This is no more: they’ve removed all of their branding from the inside and the place is up for rent (Fiona shared a photo). It’ll be interesting to see if anyone moves in because that area is going to be busy with Casa di Papi moving in soon.

When will the opening day of ski season be?
Xristos is wondering when the resort will open for ski season. Ulen (the resort operators) are usually creatures of habit and open things around the same weekend every year.

Supporting Local Mountain Rescue

The local mountain rescue service in Bansko has committed to working with The Living Mountains project and utilising the Automated External Defibrillator at Vihren Hut if needed (mentioned above).

Made up mostly of volunteers, they’ll respond to a call 24/7, hiking to rescue someone no matter what the conditions. If you’ve enjoyed any part of the Pirin Mountains this year, now is the time to donate if you haven’t already.
