Does Bulgaria have enough printed Euros for January?
Bulgarian banks announce how the Euro switch-over will affect their systems, apps, and payments.

Bulgarian banks have announced when their systems will be down for customers (online banking, apps, etc.) and for people using their services (ATMs or card payments in shops, restaurants, bars, etc) during the NYE/NYD switch-over. Some banks are also suspending the ability to pay utility bills from December 29th to January 2nd.
See the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency’s article here (translation required).
So, what should you expect on NYE/NYD? Well, I’m planning for there to be close to zero electronic payments (card payments, bank-to-bank payments, or ATM withdrawals) from around 9pm NYE to 3am NYD.
During this time, I’ll have cash in BGN on me. (In January, you can continue to pay in cash in BGN alongside EUR.)
People have suggested they’ll use Revolut, but I’d expect their service to be slower given the number of users expected to use it between 9pm NYE and 3am NYD.
Also, be aware that if something in the system breaks during the switch-over, some services may become unavailable for several days. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
Altspace: a coworking space that fits your lifestyle, not the other way around.

Our community bridges the gap between the Bansko community and working online at a coworking space, bringing people together by challenging each other on Side Hustle Day, enjoying dinner together in a local restaurant, painting & wine, or chilling and talking about everything and nothing at Friday Beers.
If you want to join a community and coworking space that offers the right work-life balance, then book a trial day with Altspace Coworking. It’ll be one of the best decisions you’ll make.

Before You Go…
It looks like snow is forecast on the mountain on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and temperatures have now stabilised in town and on the mountain, with lower temperatures predicted. A slow start to the season, but the conditions on the mountain are reasonable (even though only a limited number of slopes/lifts are open).
Wherever you will be this week for the festive celebrations, I hope you have a wonderful time over Christmas.
