There have been a few stories of people being given the wrong change or being overcharged in Bansko (and surrounding towns) recently. Or, even being charged double by local taxis (can’t say I’m surprised by that though).
Personally, I’ve seen increases/rounding this past week (for example, a 10BGN charge being uplifted to 5,50€ when charged in Euro [direct exchange would be 5,10€]: not significant, but noticeable; or being given change in Leva when paying in Leva (it should be in Euro and when asked why the response was “you paid in Leva”, not “we don’t have change in Euro”).
A reminder that if you experience a business acting unlawfully when it comes to pricing and currencies, see this post about reporting any irregularities. This is not necessarily to penalise the business directly, but to provide the regulator/government agency with more data on these instances. I read a recent media report in which these agencies stated that the irregularities were “very rare”, which I believe is down to people not bothering to report them.
