Municipality backs spaces for children, fitness, and outdoor activities

This week, the Bansko Municipal Council met to vote on several budget items to support children and young people in the local community.
Among the items were a new playground in the town’s main park, as well as a sports ground and street fitness area on the West side of the Glazne River (to be named Glazne Park) and a playground on that same side of the river.
These projects are expected to be completed by the summer, but as with any project in the local area, there might be delays and things may overrun. The cycle and footpath that wraps around the town (following the main ring road) is nearing completion. This is one part of Bansko's overall improvement project to attract tourists and visitors to the resort outside the ski season.
I think these types of projects are a good idea. They improve the town and offer a wide range of different activities for children (whether they live here or are visiting as tourists). However, I do feel that more focus is needed on young adults (ages 14 to 18). Younger children seem to be well cared for in recent projects, but many young adults lack facilities and tend to hang out at sports courts chatting and drinking in the evenings. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s a community effort for this age range.

Before You Go…
With the summer programme of events and activities confirmed, the official calendar should be out sometime this month (hopefully). As soon as it’s published, I’ll share it with you in the Buzz. It looks like the Jazz festival is staying at 10 days (starting on Friday 31st of July), and the Rock Fest is now going to be over five days.
I’m also putting together a full list of the events that are “unofficial” too, so you’ll be able to see at a glance what is happening over the summer period and other times of the year (events like Bansko Street Dogs’ summer sports day, Pirin Ultra, and other popular larger events). This event calendar will be shared first with the Beehive and then with the Buzz.
