  • Beehive members meet up this coming week

A 24-year-old local man arrested after armed robbery of a Bansko petrol station.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a 24-year-old man from Bansko, brandishing a pistol and wearing a balaclava and hoodie, entered the Petrol gas station at the bottom end of town.

He threatened the female worker behind the counter and demanded she give him all of the money she had in the till. He managed to get away with 240 leva in cash, but the police were alerted and launched an investigation.

After viewing CCTV footage and taking witness statements, the local police in Bansko managed to track down and arrest the armed robber later that day. Identified as a 24-year-old from Bansko, he was detained by police and a file was put forward to the prosecutor’s office. Read about the story here [Translation required]. There is one report that the man used a toy gun and he was desperate to get money to feed his children.

Keep in mind that this type of incident isn’t common in Bansko, and crime levels in general are extremely low compared to many other parts of the world.

About last week’s Buzz: Last week, I announced the Christmas Village event at The White Stage. Unfortunately, three hours before the village was supposed to open on Monday, it was cancelled due to the main organiser dying in a tragic accident.

Altspace: a coworking space that fits your lifestyle, not the other way around.

Our community bridges the gap between the Bansko community and working online at a coworking space, bringing people together by challenging each other on Side Hustle Day, enjoying dinner together in a local restaurant, painting & wine, or chilling and talking about everything and nothing at Friday Beers.

If you want to join a community and coworking space that offers the right work-life balance, then book a trial day with Altspace Coworking. It’ll be one of the best decisions you’ll make.

Before You Go…

Many different places at the top end of town opened this weekend for student weekend, with the likes of Flash and Jack’s House opening alongside lots of the different restaurants.

Here is a list of other places and their confirmed or expected opening dates:

  • The Hub (15th of December)

  • Sky-High Kitchen (12th of December)

  • Smokey Mountain (around 12th of December)

  • Morris Bar (around 19th of December)

  • Amigos (around 20th of December; the band will arrive after Christmas)

So….. snow. There’s not much of it on the slopes at the moment. There is a thin layer on Todorka and Plato, but zero around Banderishka Polyana (top of the gondola) and Shiligarnika (see the webcams here). But, there are snow cannons, right? Yes, but they haven’t switched them on properly yet.

It’s looking a lot different to last year when the resort opened 8 days early.

What are your thoughts? Do you think we’ll have more than one slope open on Saturday? Let me know by hitting the reply button.
